I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 a warning to mortal man 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 about the guilty ones: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
