He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 you attended to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fears (Allah), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
