He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and purified. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
