He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
