He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he feareth 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and palms 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
