The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Woe to the stinters; 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 What! Do they not expect that they will be raised? 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 The day when (all) mankind stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 Indeed the ledger of the wicked will be in (the lowest depths) Sijjin. 7 And what will make you know what Sijjin is? 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Woe, that Day, to those that deny- 10 Those who belie the Day of Requital. 11 Yet none gives the lie to it except the transgressor immersed in sin; 12 When Our revelations are conveyed to him, he says, "Fables of the ancients!" 13 By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do! 14 Verily, from (the Light of) their Lord, that Day, will they be veiled. 15 Then, verily they will indeed enter and taste the burning flame of Hell. 16 Further, it will be said to them: "This is the (reality) which ye rejected as false! 17 Indeed the record of the virtuous is in the highest place, the Illiyin. 18 Would that you knew what Illiyin is! 19 A record of good deeds written. 20 witnessed by those brought nigh. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 resting on couches, looking around. 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed, 25 With a sealing of musk, which those who aspire for the best should desire, -- 26 and whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 The spring from which drink the ones close to Allah. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 and whenever they pass by them, they wink at one another [derisively]; 30 and when they returned to their own people, they would speak of them jestingly; 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 Whereas they have not at all been sent as guardians over them. 33 So this day it is the believers who laugh at the disbelievers. 34 [for, resting in paradise] on couches, they will look on [and say to themselves]: 35 Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? 36
