Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 and couches raised high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
