Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 in a sublime garden, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 raised couches, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
