Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
