The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
