The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 But save him who fears 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 He verily will be content. 21
