The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
