The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
