In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
