The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 or orders piety? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
