The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
