The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Leave them to feast and revel, beguiled by hope; they will come to know soon. 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old. 10 No Messenger went to them whom they did not mock. 11 We place in the hearts of sinners (disbelief). 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
