We did deliver aforetime the Children of Israel from humiliating Punishment, 30 They (had experienced) under the Pharaoh. He was certainly a tyrant, guilty of excess. 31 We knowingly exalted them (i.e., the Children of Israel) above other peoples of the world 32 and gave them such signs [of Our grace] as would clearly presage a test. 33 Most surely these do say: 34 'There is nothing except the first death, we shall never be revived. 35 Then bring [back] our forefathers, if you should be truthful." 36 Are they, then, better than the people of Tubba and those before them, whom We destroyed because they were truly lost in [the same] sin? 37 We created not the heavens and earth, and all that between them is, in play; 38 We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not. 39 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] is the term appointed for all of them: 40 (when wrong will be distinguished from right). On this day friends will be of no benefit to one another, nor will they receive any help 41 save those to whom God shows mercy. Surely, He is the Mighty, the Merciful One. 42
