The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
