He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
