Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
