And this (Qur'an) is a revelation from the Lord of all the worlds, 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 Upon your heart, for you to convey warning. 194 In the plain Arabic language. 195 And lo! it is in the Scriptures of the men of old. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that the learned among the Children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 And had We sent it down upon a person other than an Arab, 198 In order that he read it to them, even then they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty. 200 They will not believe therein until they behold the torment afflictive. 201 But the (Penalty) will come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 and then they will say: 'Shall we be respited' 203 So for Our punishment are they impatient? 204 But hast thou ever considered [this]: If We do allow them to enjoy [this life] for some years, 205 then there comes on them that they were promised, 206 none of their luxuries will be able to save them from the torment? 207 Never a city We destroyed, but it had warners 208 We have never been unjust to anyone. 209 And [this divine writ is such a reminder:] no evil spirits have brought it down: 210 it behoves them not, neither are they able. 211 Indeed they are debarred from even hearing it. 212 So invoke not with Allah another ilah (god) lest you be among those who receive punishment. 213 And warn thy tribe of near kindred, 214 and be meek to the believers who follow you. 215 Then if they disobey thee, say: "I am free (of responsibility) for what ye do!" 216 Put your trust in the Mighty One, the Merciful, 217 who sees thee when thou standest 218 And thy movements among those who prostrate themselves, 219 He is All-hearing and All-knowing." 220 Shall I tell you on whom the satans descend? 221 They descend on every forgerer steeped in sin, 222 Who gives ear (to the devils and they pour what they may have heard of the unseen from the angels), and most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets - it is the seduced who follow them. 224 Observest thou not, that they wander about every vale. 225 and preaching what they themselves never practice. 226 Save those who believed and worked righteous works and remembered Allah much, and vindicated themselves after they had been wronged. And anon those who do wrong shall come to know with what a translating they shall be translated. 227
