A throng of the ancients 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
