The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
