He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And hath fear, 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and fodder 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
