Noah (Nooh)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
We sent Noah forth to his people, saying, "Warn your people before there comes upon them a grievous punishment." 1 [And Noah] said: "O my people! I am but a plain warner to you, [sent to tell you] 2 that you serve Allah and fear Him, and follow me; 3 He will forgive you your sins and respite you till an appointed term. When the term of Allah arrives it cannot be deferred; if you but knew' 4 [And after a time, Noah] said: "O my Sustainer! Verily, I have been calling unto my people night and day 5 "But all my calling added nothing but to (their) flight (from the truth). 6 And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments, persisted, and were arrogant with [great] arrogance. 7 Then I invited them publicly. 8 Then I conveyed the message to them, again, both in public and in private, 9 And I have said: Seek pardon of your Lord. Lo! He was ever Forgiving. 10 He will send you abundant rain from the sky, 11 increase your wealth and sons; and grant you gardens and waterways. 12 What aileth you that ye hope not toward Allah for dignity 13 seeing that He has created [every one of] you in successive stages? 14 Have you not regarded how God created seven heavens one upon another, 15 And hath placed the moon therein for a light, and hath made the sun a lamp? 16 And Allah hath caused you to grow from the earth as a growth. 17 and to it He will return you. Then, He will bring you forth. 18 how God has spread the earth out for you 19 so that you walk in its spacious paths.' 20
