The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
