Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
