He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 So you are after him! 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
