The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
