The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning. 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful. 3 Indeed, for the unbelievers We have prepared chains, fetters and a Blazing (Fire). 4 Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup the admixture of which is camphor 5 The Kafoor is a spring, from which the chosen bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to flow wherever they wish inside their palaces. 6 They keep their vows and fear a day the woe of which will spread far and wide; 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 and recompensed them for their patience with a Garden, and silk; 12 therein they shall recline upon couches, therein they shall see neither sun nor bitter cold; 13 the shading branches of trees will come down low over them, and their clusters of fruit, will hang down where they are the easiest to reach. 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil, 17 [From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel. 18 ۞ There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance. 22
