A large group from the earlier generations. 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
