[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 When Shu'ayb said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 177 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 178 I ask of you no wage for this; 179 I do not ask any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 180 ۞ “Measure in full, and do not be of those who reduce.” 181 Weigh with correct scales: 182 Wrong not mankind in their goods, and do not evil, making mischief, in the earth. 183 And fear He who created you and the former creation." 184 They replied: 'You are surely one of those bewitched. 185 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; indeed, we think that thou art one of the liars. 186 Drop down on us lumps from heaven, if you are one of the truthful' 187 He said, 'My Lord knows very well what you are doing.' 188 But they rejected him. Then the punishment of a day of overshadowing gloom seized them, and that was the Penalty of a Great Day. 189 Surely, in this is indeed a sign; but most of them would not believe: 190 And most surely your Lord is Mighty, the Merciful. 191
