We have sent no Prophet to any city but that We seized its people with misery and hardship, that haply they might be humble; 94 Thereafter We substituted ease in place of adversity until they abounded and said: even Thus tribulation and prosperity touched our fathers. Then We laid hold of them of a sudden, while they perceived not. 95 And if the people of the towns had believed and had the Taqwa (piety), certainly, We should have opened for them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they belied (the Messengers). So We took them (with punishment) for what they used to earn (polytheism and crimes, etc.). 96 Then, did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them at night while they were asleep? 97 Or, are the people of the townships secure that Our wrath would not come upon them by daylight while they are disporting themselves? 98 Did they consider themselves secure from the retribution of God? No one can have such attitude except those who are lost. 99
