Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers) 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 we indulged in vain arguments along with those who indulged in them; 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
