The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 or orders piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
