He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
