He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 with darkness overspread: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
