The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
