The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your clothing purify 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
