۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 when he said to his father and his people, 'What are these statues unto which you are cleaving?' 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
