The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
