The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and children living in his presence, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
