Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 That they may bring to thee every magician knowing. 112 And the wizards came to Pharaoh, saying: Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors. 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 and the magicians flung themselves prostrate, 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They replied, "We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
