a multitude of the ancients, 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
