He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
