The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will now call the guards! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
