The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And your garments purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
