The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
