The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, 4 The roof raised high, 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
