He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you ignore him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 Olives and dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
